The room has some deep green, red and
burgundy colours, with cream walls and carpet. Through the windows you
can see lots of lovely shrubs and greenery. Jacqui suggested something
to match in with the window view - perhaps a rainforest scene? Lorraine
loved the idea! First the colours of the room decor were recorded, then some small sketch paintings produced for Lorraine and John. This subject can be painted in any style form traditional, subdued, all the way through to abstract or modern bright colours. Can you guess which style they chose (from the 4 below) to have for the final painting? |

This first one is a tiny postcard-sized oil painting sketch on canvas board (done very quickly) |

| Here is a quick watercolour painting sketch done on a small postcard-sized piece of watercolour paper. |

| This is a slightly larger painting on a 30cm square canvas, done in oil paints, with soft blending and brushstrokes. |

| This is a matching size canvas done in acrylic paints, with sharper cleaner edges to the design. |

Lorraine and John liked the acrylic on canvas
the best, so they are going for that. And they want nice bright colours. Ok! now we start work! Finally all the bits of stretcher frame edging and cross bracing have arrived (after four trips to the supplier to sort out wrong items they delivered!) You can also see the roll of pre-primed cotton duck canvas ready to stretch too. |

| This painting is going to be huge - 1500m high and over 3m wide. |

| Next job is to stretch the canvas over the frame. This is done with special canvas stretching pliers (and several blisters!) | ||||
| The corners are finished off neatly. |

| Wedges go in for future stretching. These can be tapped with a hammer later to tighten up the canvas if it's ever needed. |

| The easels are set up in the studio. These 3 easels were custom designed and built by Jacqui for a previous job, a huge mural at the Redlands Sporting Club. In that job, 3 panels at a time were set up on the easels so that the continuity of the painting images could be guaranteed. These easels have been very handy for large painting jobs ever since! |

| The canvases go up on the easels, and the composition and colour design is drawn up next for approval by John and Lorraine. | ||||
| Next stage: Creating the composition! | ||||
