Photography & quilting

Caravan Quilt - My first effort. Rather ambitious to try a centre medallion mariner's compass quilt. Colours chosen to match the caravan décor. I found that red fabrics are inclined to run, especially if you don't wash them before you start. I now wash all fabrics as soon as I buy them.

Mariner's Compass Rose Quilt - After undertaking a navigation course I got carried away and made this with all the points of the compass self digitised and embroidered. Most of the fabrics are hand dyed by a lady in NSW.

Our Summer Quilt - Colours and style chosen by my husband from a wonderful book called "The Quilt", compiled by Marie Salazar. An unusual combination of flowers and stripes seems to work well.

Sophia's First Quilt - Sophia likes muted pastels and chose a seascape theme. Strips were joined then fish and seaweed appliquéd across the top. A matching pillow slip was made from leftover scraps.

Sophia's Second Quilt - As my grand daughter approached her teenage years, her tastes changed and she wanted a quilt like her father's but in girlie colours of course. She went through her photographs and chose the ones she wanted then came with me to choose the fabrics. I photographed Apple Blossom in my garden to fill in the panels without photos.

Michael's Quilt - My eldest son wanted a dark coloured quilt with an aboriginal theme, so I chose the colours of the aboriginal flag and scanned slides taken by his late father in 1949 for use in the picture panels.

Lap Quilt - Made from scraps out of my stash, this quilt was an experiment in the colour wash technique and is great for wrapping up with in front of the telly on cool nights.

Patchwork Jacket (front) - From another class. Purple is one of my favourite colours, although I don't seem to do many quilts using this colour.

Patchwork Jacket (back) - From another class. Purple is one of my favourite colours, although I don't seem to do many quilts using this colour.

Kitchen Blind - The blind in my kitchen gave up the ghost so I traced the pattern from one of the doors in our house and tried to match the colours as best I could. The old blind was cut off about half way and this stitched to the bottom. It works very well.

Stained Glass Rose Wall Hanging - I went to a class to learn the stained glass technique where we had a choice of flowers to do. I have a big rose garden so this was naturally my choice.

Jacqui's Shower Curtain - At the time, Jacqui's bathroom had a blue & lemon theme and this curtain was made to match. Shell, starfish and fish patterns were drawn up, shapes cut out and embroidered before being satin stitched to the bottom section of the curtain. The blue & lemon sections were satin stitched together to simulate sand & sea.

Jacqui & Mumsy's Appliquéd Flower Quilt - My daughter bought herself a "block of the month" package but because of work commitments had trouble finishing it, so I obliged and it became a joint effort.

Appliquéd Flowers Quilt - Jacqui gave me a "block of the month" package from a local quilting shop as a birthday present one year and over the next twelve months I eagerly anticipated the regular arrival of the packages. This is the attractive result. It now graces the bed in our guest room and everyone comments on it.

Jacqui's Quilt - Jacqui loves blue & gold and this quilt was designed on the computer with advice from my design consultant aka husband. Jacqui vetted all the designs and chose this one which looks very good finished.

Katrina's Quilt - I call this one "Coffee & Cream". Katrina says it makes her feel like a medieval Queen. The four triangles around the centre square were hand beaded, an occupation I am not anxious to repeat. The rest comprises squares and borders machine embroidered on satin and calico. This is the first quilt made to reach right to the floor.

Annie's Quilt - Annie has a collection of teddy bears and just adores them so chose a panel of fabric with bears in bed. A series of borders complete the quilt, with raw edge appliquéd picture panels from another fabric on one of the outer borders and four little embroidered bears at the corners of the dark blue border.

Libby's Quilt - Probably the trickiest quilt I have ever made mainly because it is a-symmetrical. Libby liked another quilt pictured in "The Quilt" and this is loosely based on that but in colours she chose.

Purple Stars Quilt - At last, after nearly ten years - my favourite colour, This quilt is for me. The star patterns were taken from Carol Doak's book on the stars representing the various states of America. I planned the quilt and designed the pink patterns to lift the quilt out of the ordinary. My husband says it has a Japanese look.

Appliquéd white flowers and green leaves embroidered in gold look great against the bright red background.

Twin Thomas - My husbands youngest son produced twins three or four years age. This quilt was made for the little dark one. The twins' mother wanted a simple pattern and bright colours.

This twin is the larger of the two and was blonde at birth. Most of the quilts I make are washable - just as well with two little boys.

  Silk wall hanging

Cream Vest (back view) - Made for a wedding. Made of satin & pale pink ribbon. Embroidered roses and butterflies adorn this item.

Claudia and Bill's Quilt - Made for my friends when they returned to Europe after a stint working for the Sports Commission in Australia for several years prior to the 2000 Olympic games. Now they have a new born daughter, Saskia, who is on my quilt making list.

David's Quilt - My youngest wanted the same style as his older brother but being in the Navy chose blue with pictures of his family and precious possessions. It has had a lot of use and had to have some of the pictures replaced recently.

Scrap Stars Quilt - This is about a metre square and was also made largely from scraps left over from the twins' quilts. Jacqui liked this one so much that it is now hers
